2022 Eyeglass Store Reviews
In business for over 10 years, Glasses USA has a fantastic website and offers a huge selection of 668 men's glasses and 819 women's glasses.
In order to help you narrow down your eyeglass search, Glasses USA provides several search options to navigate their vast inventory:
- Frame Shape
- Frame Type
- Marked Frames
- Frame Measurements
At the time of this review they advertised giving new customer 65% off of their first purchase of a pair of eyeglasses with single vision lenses.
If you are unsure of your current prescription Glasses USA even has an app that you can install on your phone that will show you the prescription of your current glasses!
You have 14 days to try your glasses once you receive them and can return for a full refund, no questions asked. They are one of the few companies that we reviewed that has a 24/7 customer service line that you can contact anytime with questions or concerns. The frames also have a one-year manufacturer warranty against any manufacturer defects. In the unlikely event that your frames or lenses would break afterthe initial 14 day return period and are within one year of purchase, they will provide you with a store credit for 50% of your original purchase price of your glasses.
Glasses USA also has a great virtual mirror feature on their website. This allows you to see what the glasses will look like on you, so that you can try as many pairs of glasses as you want virtually before making a decision on your purchase.
If you find the same pair of eyeglasses being sold on a competitor's website, Glasses USA will beat their price by 10%. They also offer a Student Discount of 70% off a lens upgrade and accept insurance plans.
Orders are typically shipped within 10 days of receipt of payment. Standard shipping of 7-10 business days is free. Optionally, you can upgrade your shipping for an additional cost if you need the glasses sooner than the 7-10 day shipping window.
The biggest customer complaint that we found about Glasses USA is that it takes a few weeks to receive your order. Glasses USA openly states on their website that their production time is 10 days and shipping time adds another 10 days to the timeline so you should plan on 20 days from the date you place your order until you receive your new eyeglasses.
With a great selection, free shipping, and the virtual mirror on their website, Glasses USA sets the standard in Eyeglasses. They earn our highest rating.
- "A" rating from the Better Business Bureau
- Prescription glasses are FSA and HSA eligible
- Transparent pricing
- Free shipping
- Free adjustments
Liingo Eyewear was founded in 2016. They take a unique approach to shopping for glasses by acknowledging that not everyone enjoys the process of eyewear shopping. In fact, for some it is awkward and hard to find a pair they feel confident in. Liingo's idea is to let customers try on glasses from the comfort and safety of their home without the pressure from a salesperson or opinions from strangers. This way you can get an affordable pair of eyeglasses that you know fits your style and you have a little extra time to make that choice. Liingo is the perfect choice for those who like the idea of trying glasses in-person, but want the convenience of online shopping.
No-commitment at-home try on
The nitty gritty details of how Liingo's process works is actually quite simple. It's a good idea to start with their virtual try-on tool. You'll upload a picture of yourself to their site, find the eyeglass styles you like on their website, and then Liingo will generate what you would look like in those glasses. You can choose 5 pairs of glasses that you like and they'll ship them to you to test out for 5 days with no commitments (you'll give your credit card info just to make sure you don't steal the demo pairs). After the 5 days are up, decide which pairs of glasses you want to stick with, add them to your cart online, then ship the demo pairs back to Liingo!
Simple styles that work for most
Demo eyewear doesn't come with prescription lenses, so when you buy your glasses online, you'll specify your prescription and if you want blue light filters or other customizations. There are over 85 pairs of women's frames to choose from and over 60 for men that can be sorted by size, shape, face shape, color, and material. Although this isn't as big of a selection as you'll find at some other eyeglass retailers, most of the available frames come in 3-5 different colors. The styles are timeless and simple enough that most people would be able to find a style they like.
Eyeglasses can easily get expensive, but Liingo keeps prices reasonable, transparent, and straightforward. Frames range from $79 - $129 and the total price varies based on your prescription. If you need a single-vision prescription to help see one field of vision either close up or far away, your lenses are free. Lenses are also free if you don't need a prescription. However, if you need help seeing far, intermediate, and near all with one lens (probably applies to the majority of people), the cost is $149.
Single vision and progressive multifocal features:
- Blue light: $59
- Polarized UV protection lenses: $49
- Light responsive: $79
- 1.67 high index: $49
Non-prescription sunglasses features:
- Blue light: free
- Polarized UV protection lenses: free
- Light responsive: free
- Polycarbonate: free
It's unlikely that you won't be satisfied with your eyeglasses after the virtual and in-home try-on process, but in case you change your mind, you have 60 days to get a full refund. In addition to a generous return policy, Liingo provides free shipping and will give you $25 towards glasses adjustments if you take them into an optical shop and get charged.
Run, don't walk!
We are so excited about Liingo Eyewear! It's no surprise that customers have great experiences with them and highly recommend them to others. They also have an "A" rating from the Better Business Bureau. Liingo makes it easy to find eyeglasses you love at affordable prices. Even though their selection isn't huge, it gives plenty of options to fit most face shapes and styles. This is a fantastic option for people who want to take their time choosing eyeglasses from the comfort of their own home. Run to Liingo and check them out!
Eyeglasses has been in business since 1999. They offer free shipping on all orders and a very quick turnaround with one day processing on all in stock frames.
Eyeglasses provides a variety of search options to narrow down your selection, including:
- Eye Size
Eyeglasses makes the ordering process very simple in a step by step outlined process to order eyeglass frames with prescription lenses. However, they do not accept insurance and they do not price match. Shipping is free once you spend $55. If you have any questions or concerns, you can contact customer 24 hours a day 7 days a week via their toll- free customer service number.
One interesting feature we liked is that Eyeglasses offers you the option to virtually try on the glasses, which takes some of the guesswork out of buying glasses online. Given that they allow the option to virtually try on your glasses before purchasing should decrease the chances of you having to make a return with them, which will avoid having to pay for the return shipping.
We did find some customer complaints about Eyeglasses not following through on their delivery times, and several customers said that they were charged for their eyeglasses only to be told via email several weeks later that their eyeglasses were not in stock.
We love the idea of the virtual mirror to try on the eyeglasses online - we just caution you that your eyeglasses may not ship as quickly as they advertise. Eyeglasses is a good one stop shop for shopping virtually for eyeglasses as well as learning more about your eye health.
Eye Buy Direct
Eye Buy Direct has been in business since 2006. They offer a selection 450 pairs of women's glasses, 496 pairs of men's glasses and 17 pairs of children's glasses.
To narrow down your search for eyeglasses, Eye Buy Direct offers the following search options:
- Rim Material
The return policy at Eye Buy Direct is a 14-day fit and style guarantee which allows customers to make an equal exchange or return with no questions asked. They also have a one-year product guarantee which allows customers a one- time replacement pair within 12 months. The warranty is for glasses that have defects in materials and workmanship.
Eye Buy Direct offers discounts to students which are 20% off and free shipping. They also have a Buy One Give One Program: when you purchase a pair of glasses you can select a person in need from another country to receive a pair of eyeglasses for free.
Shipping is free at Eye Buy Direct for orders over $99. If your order is under $99 shipping is $5.95. Customer Service is available 24/7 Via Live chat, or you can call their customer service number Monday- Friday 9a-12a EST and 9a-6p EST on the weekends.
Overall the customer reviews that we found were positive. Customers thought that Eye Buy Direct offered a good, quality product for the price and that their customer service department was responsive to any issues that arose. They have a good selection of eyeglasses to choose from and nice discounts for students. When buying eyeglasses, Eye Buy Direct is worth your consideration.
Goggles 4 U
Goggles 4 U has been in business since 2002. With 414 styles of men's glasses, 885 women's frames and 49 different frames for children of basic eyeglasses they have several great options to choose from.
Goggles 4 U offers a wide selection of search options including:
- Prescription type
- Frame Type
- Frame Style
- Eye Width
- Frame Shape
- Nose Bridge
- Temple Size
They offer scratch resistant, anti-reflection, and UV protection on their bifocal, progressive and single vision lenses.
Goggles 4 U advertises that you will get your first pair of eyeglasses for $9.90 delivered and that it includes frames, lenses and shipping. However if you're searching for name brand lenses you will not find them here. They do have very stylish and attractive frames, just not name brands that come along with the name brand pricing.
The standard shipping charge from Goggles 4 U is $5.95. They offer a 15-day warranty on all frames and stock lenses. Goggles 4 U also offers a convenient eyeglass measuring guide so you're able to measure your eyeglasses yourself. This makes it easy to understand the dimensional breakdown which should help you to avoid any sizing and fitting issues with your new eyeglasses. They also offer a video on their websiteto walk you through how to measure your frame size.
These glasses are made in Thailand and Pakistan, so the delivery time once your order is process is 14-21 days. You can contact Goggles 4 U 24/7 via a toll- free number.
We found very few customer complaints about the company. Most customers were happy with the quality and service that they received.
Even though the shipping time takes longer than other companies that we reviewed, Goggles 4 U is upfront and honest about their delivery times so there should be no surprise there. If you're looking for basic glasses that are reasonably priced and aren't in a huge hurry to receive them, Goggles 4 U is definitely worth considering.
Best Buy Eyeglasses
Best Buy Eyeglasses was founded in 2004. They offer one of the biggest selections of frames of the companies that we reviewed. They offer free shipping and returns on all orders. You can contact them 24/7 anytime support so you can shop 24/7 and if you have a question there is someone available to help you with your needs.
The website is easy to navigate and allows you to search by a variety of options, including
- Lens Type
- Frame Size
Best Buy Eyeglasses does have brand offer limits for certain manufacturers meaning that you can only purchase two of certain brands per month. If you need a pair of eyeglasses this may be the place to get them their turnaround time is extremely quick. Within 2-5 days of placing your order it will be processed and shipped.
Best Buy Eyeglasses offers free shipping and free returns, however they do charge a 10% fee on returns if you request a refund. If you do decide to cancel your order for any reason be prepared to pay a 10% cancellation fee. We did find several complaints about the company in regard to customer service and quality of their products. Customers have received the wrong products and had a difficult time getting theirmoney refunded or their exchange processed.
Even though the company offers one of the largest selections of eyeglasses and an attractive website, we cannot ignore the customer complaints that we found. Hopefully they can address these concerns and see their rating rise in the future.
The Glasses Shop has been in business since 2004, and they offer a good variety of glasses and sunglasses. However while their website is attractive and easy to navigate were not able to see in the search exactly how many pairs of glasses were available.
The Glasses Shop provides their customers several ways to search for eyeglasses:
The Glasses Shop offers single vision, progressive, as well as a blue blocker lens, which is a digital protection lens. They seem to always have a promotion or sale, and their pricing are very competitive.
Customer service hours at The Glasses Shop are Monday-Friday 9-5, EST if you have any questions and need to contact them.
The Glasses Shop also has an interesting feature on their website which they clal their Look Book. This is where their customers can post pictures of themselves in their eyeglass from the Glasses Shop. If you post a photo of yourself in your new eyewear you can earn bonus shopping points towards discounts off of your future purchases.
The Glasses Shop provides a 90-day warranty for defects in materials and workmanship. They also offer free shipping on orders of $79 or greater.
We did find some customer complaints about the quality of the lenses and how long it takes to receive the merchandise. Products are made and shipped from China, so estimated delivery time can be 3-4 weeks.
Overall, The Glasses Shop is worth considering if you're looking for eyeglasses for a reasonable price.
39 Dollar Glasses
39 Dollar Glasses has been in business since 2001. One of the nice things about 39 Glasses is that all of the orders are made in their New York laboratory. This means their turnaround time is significantly less than those companies that we reviewed that were based outside of the U.S.
The 39 Dollar Glasses website is easy to navigate and gives you a number of options to search with, including:
- Frame material
- Frame shape
- Frame color
- Total frame width
- Temple length
- Lens type
The price that they advertise for their frames includes thin and lightweight lenses featuring 100% UV protection and anti- scratch coating. Most orders ship within 2-7 business days. Shipping is $4.95 on orders less than $99. Orders $99 and greater have free shipping.
Another feature we liked is their Rewards Program. When you purchase from 39 Dollar Glasses you are automatically enrolled in their Eye Bucks Rewards Program. 4% of your eyeglass purchases will be deposited into your customer account that you can use for money off of your next purchase.
They also have a convenient return policy. If you are unhappy for any reason you may return your eyeglasses for a one-time exchange at no cost or a full store credit for up to 90 days after delivery. Return shipping is free. If you have a shipping charge on your initial order it is non- refundable.
Customer service at 39 Dollar Glasses is only available M-F between 9-5, which isn't as good as some of the other companies we've reviewed that offer 24/7 phone access. However they do a have a virtual customer service agent available 24/7. Also, at the time of this review the FAQ section on the company website was blank. With their limited customer service hours and not being able to go to the FAQ page and getinformation during the hours that customer service isn't available, their overall customer service not as attractive as the other companies that we reviewed.
We didn't find many customer complaints about 39 Dollar Glasses. Most customers said they felt as thought they have a reasonably priced product and that they respond to customer service and warranty issues in a timey manner.
While 39 Dollar Glasses offers some nice features, including a rewards program, their customer service issues bring their rating down in our review.
Frames Direct has been in business since 1996. They are owned by Essilor, which is the world's largest lens company. Being owned by the largest lens company allows Frames Direct to offer the highest quality lenses at a reasonable price.
Frames Direct offers hundreds of name brand eyeglasses and gives you several ways to search while shopping. Some of these include:
- Frame material
- Frame shape
- Frame color
- Frame size
When buying lenses, Frames Direct includes a UV lens coating as well as an anti-scratch coating and edge polishing for free. However, keep in mind while you are shopping for your eyeglasses on their website that the frames don't include the price of the lenses.
One nice feature we liked is their price match guarantee. If you are shopping around and find the same pair of frames at another company, Frames Direct will match their price. While this applies to frames, they do not price match prescription lenses.
Frames Direct accepts both Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) and Health Spending Accounts (HSA). They offer free shipping, but that does not apply to contact lens orders, international orders and some exchanges.
If giving back is important to you, you'll want to take notice: Frames Direct donates a pair of glasses on your behalf once your order ships, which is part of the Essilor Groups mission.
Frames Direct provides a 30-day lens guarantee as well as a 30 day return policy on all frames and sunglasses. Their customer service hours are M-Th 8a-7p, Friday 8a-6p, Saturday 8a-5p and they are closed on Sundays.
Of all of the companies that we reviewed Frames Direct had one of the highest number of customer complaints. For example, customers who had ordered their glasses months ago and never received them contacted the company - only to be told that they were out of stock on that item.
Frames Direct's wide selection of frames is attractive. However their inconsistency in production times as well as high rate of customer complaints results in a drop in their rating.
